My scientific interests still oscillate between the use of antibodies for various purposes such as immunosuppression e.g. of the antilymphocyte serum (ALS)   or ATG , monoclonal antibodies for treatment of autoimmune disease  or minimal residual cancer on the one hand  and  the early and clinically occult dissemination of  cancer cells as a necessary step in metastasis on the other hand. The latter being representative of the state of minimal residual cancer , when the primary tumor has eliminated by surgery  or irradiation but dispersed single-cell remnants of the tumor left behind  must regarded as the seed of clinical metastasis , occurring often many years later only. Both aspects can be made  visible by the two images symbolizing the gist of the  most recent (2008)  publications on both topics:  The head of the old Roman god Janus watching at the same time in two different directions symbolizes the bispecific single-chain antibody engaging T cells
